The Estep's Legacy
From humble beginnings on Capitol Street to West Virginia's premier menswear destination.
Jackie Estep Sr. begins working at Markin's on Capitol Street while studying at Charleston High School, quickly becoming the most productive and youngest manager in the chain's history.
After being promoted to manager at Calvin's (formerly Markin's, relocated to Summer Street), Mr. Estep Sr. purchases the store — now Calvin's Family Clothing Store becomes a downtown Charleston fixture.
The store moves to 700 Lee Street and is rebranded as Estep's The Nu Look — a name that would become synonymous with Charleston fashion.
Jack Estep Jr. graduates from WVU and joins his father at Estep's, beginning the next generation of family leadership.
Under the ownership of Jack and Tom Estep, Estep's continues to be West Virginia's premier men's fashion destination — over 50 years strong.
